KCC offers teens a glimpse into different careers with ‘Day in the Life’ camps

BATTLE CREEK — Area teens will have the chance to explore different careers this summer during Kellogg Community College’s hands-on “Day in the Life” camps.

Each day camp is designed to provide participants with hands-on activities so students can experience a “day in the life” of each profession. Participants will meet professionals from each career field and learn about career paths, salary information and the types of equipment used in each field.

Camps are for youth ages 14-18. Those interested can sign up online at kellogg.edu/youth or call KCC’s Lifelong Learning Department at (269) 965-4134.

Registration can also be completed in-person at the Lifelong Learning Office in Room 305 of the Lane-Thomas Building on KCC’s North Avenue campus.

Individuals can sign up for as little as one day or up to all six at registration. Day in the Life camps offered this summer include:

A Day in the Life: Skilled Trades

10 am to 3 pm Thursday, June 15

Campers will rotate among different skilled trades stations at KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center to do hands-on activities and experience what it’s like to be a welder, electrician, HVACR technician and more.

A Day in the Life: Criminal Justice and Emergency Medical Services (Public Safety)

10 am to 3 pm Tuesday, June 20

Campers will learn about careers in the public safety areas of law enforcement and emergency medical services. Campers will test their skills using KCC’s driving simulator, which mimics a full-view driving course, and the College’s Emergency Medical Services simulation lab.

A Day in the Life: Nursing, Dental Hygiene & Allied Health

10 am to 3 pm Monday, June 26

Campers will take a peek into the fast-paced world of health care and participate in hands-on activities in different health care career paths. They’ll also experience KCC’s state-of-the-art simulation labs and Dental Hygiene Clinic.

A Day in the Life: Early Childhood & Teacher Education

9 am to noon Thursday, June 29

Campers will create lesson plans, plan youth activities and see what being a teacher is all about. They’ll also spend time in KCC’s Early Childhood Education Learning Lab learning about teaching and child care.

Aviation Discovery Camp

10 am to 3 pm Tuesday, July 11

Campers will experience aviation up close and personal at the Western Michigan University College of Aviation. They’ll learn about careers as an aviation maintenance technician and become a pilot by experiencing WMU’s state-of-the-art flight training simulators.

A Day in the Life: Business & Computer Information Technology

9 am to noon Tuesday, Aug. 1

This camp is full of opportunities that will allow campers to explore the different areas of KCC’s Business and Computer Information Technology programs, including Accounting, Retail Management and Sports Management as well as Computer Programming, Web Design and Cybersecurity.

Space in each program is limited and granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
