What’s on tap for ABC next season? Kaitlin Olson has ‘High Potential’ as a crime-solver

ABC believes Kaitlin Olson has an excellent future as a private detective.

The network announced Tuesday the addition of “High Potential,” a drama that follows Olson as a single mom with an unconventional knee for solving crimes. The “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star plays the offbeat Morgan, who forms an unusual and yet formidable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata).

The drama, written by Drew Goddard (“The Good Place”) is based on the popular French series “Haut Potentiel Intellectuel.”

ABC renewed Gina Rodriguez’s freshman sitcom “Not Dead Yet” for a second season along with (as expected) the “Roseanne” spinoff “The Conners,” the network’s top comedy, for a sixth season.

The timing of for “High Potential” – and new episodes of returning favorites – depends on the resolution of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, which began May 2, and if prolonged will delay the fall season.

“Home Economics,” vying for a fourth season, and “The Rookie: Feds,” starring Niecy Nash, remaining on the bubble for the network, which must decide by June 30 whether to renew them.
